Never the Owners' Knickers

Answering the questions veterinary science is too scared to ask

I'm Jane RVN, a registered veterinary nurse in the UK and I'm here to share with you my tails of the veterinary clinic.

Back in 2012 on Twitter I was @JaneRVN and #PlanetRVN and a gentleman slid into my DMs.

He offered me the opportunity to write a fortnightly blog for the Vet Times. Initially for 3 months... and 13 years later I'm still there.

I'm now bringing my musings on veterinary life to everyone. The good, the smelly, the downright scary.

Oh yes and the knickers, They are never the owners' knickers.

About Never the Owners' Knickers

Welcome

Let’s start with the truth, many things happen in clinical practice that are sad and also sometimes a bit morbid, or weird, or darkly humorous. It's why writing a book about behind the scenes in the veterinary world is very difficult to get right.

I feel now is the right time to share with everyone my experience in veterinary work, it’s not all Supervet or James Herriott because the hard truth is it really is ‘never the owners knickers'.

I have spent the last 13 years writing and publishing my thoughts, feelings, and absolutely crazy experiences of life as a veterinary nurse in the UK.

Through my column in Vet Times,
my stories have entertained the veterinary profession for quite some time. Now its your turn to find out why it is Never the Owners' Knickers.

Animal health care advice

The information here is from Jane, a registered veterinary nurse but please ALWAYS call your vet for pet health information. The advice given in the blogs was given in the context of the animal and owner at the time. This may not be the best advice for you or your pet.

Thanks

Thank you to all the vet teams, clients and pets I have worked with while experiencing these situations. You never know what has just happened behind the consult room door, so please be gentle with us!

Is it real?

Some names and locations have been changed to avoid identification of pets/owners/colleagues/clinics; however the stories are ALL real.
